Street side landscape planter boxes have been used for years in order to enhance the aesthetic quality of our urban districts. These planter boxes are typically raised up off the street, overly irrigated, and serve little purpose beyond aesthetics.

Places like Seattle, Washington and Kansas City, Kansas have created programs that begin to look at the street side planter box as a Best Management Practice (BMP) for treating urban runoff and reducing the peak discharge of storm water runoff.
